Flyer for Dr. Beatriz Solis Scholarship

The Dr. Beatriz Solis Scholarship aims to honor the legacy and impact of Dr. Beatriz Solis (1962-2020), a passionate advocate for vulnerable and disadvantaged communities.

Dr. Solis, a La Puente High School graduate, pursued her undergraduate, master's, and doctorate degrees at UCLA. As the Program Director of Healthy Communities at The California Endowment, she dedicated her career to translating love into justice, focusing on building healthy communities through public health policies grounded in economic, environmental, and racial justice.

The scholarship program will be awarding several scholarships in the range of $300 to $750 to high school seniors. Seniors will be selected from high schools that had an impact in Dr. Solis' life (Roosevelt High School, Mendez High School, La Puente High School, and South Pasadena High School). There is no GPA requirement but applicants must show proof of being a student at one of these three schools listed. Students planning to pursue any sort of higher education (4 year institution, 2 year institution, and/or accredited trade school) are encouraged to apply.

Special attention will be given to students who plan to pursue the following interests:  History, Latin American Studies, Anthropology, Photography, Public Health, or Urban Planning. Ideal applicants will have experience and/or passion in social justice, aligning with Dr. Solis' legacy. Finalists may have a final phone interview with judges before the recipients are finalized at the judges’ discretion.

2024 Scholarship winners will be announced late May.
