On Sunday, November 2, 2025, Active Streets “Corazón del Valle” will create five miles of car-free streets for the public to walk, bike, run, skate, scoot, dance, and play in the heart of the San Gabriel Valley. The new open streets route will connect participants to historic downtown El Monte, businesses along Garvey Avenue, two community parks, the South El Monte Civic Center, and the Jeff Seymour Family Center — home of ActiveSGV and the El Monte Bike Park — among other notable destinations.
“ActiveSGV is excited to bring open streets back to our backyard,” shared ActiveSGV Program Director Danielle Zamora. “It’s been six years since this part of the valley has benefited from a local ciclovia.”
As the host of Corazón del Valle, the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments (SGVCOG) is proud to welcome the return of open streets to the El Monte and South El Monte area,” said SGVCOG Executive Director Marisa Creter. “This Active Streets event offers a meaningful opportunity to bring our communities together in a powerful way — promoting active transportation, showcasing local businesses and landmarks, and celebrating the vibrant culture of the San Gabriel Valley. We look forward to seeing families, neighbors, and visitors enjoy this unique opportunity to safely explore El Monte and South El Monte in a fun, healthy, and car-free environment.”
Participants can attend the event via the Metro Bus, Foothill Transit, or Metrolink, with the El Monte Station providing direct rail and bus access to the event route. Thanks to Metro’s student transit pass program, students K-12 may ride free on Metro buses, and bikes and scooters may be brought on board at no extra cost. The Rio Hondo Bike path also runs in close proximity to the event route, providing easy access to the Emerald Necklace and LA County’s existing river greenway network.
Members of the public will also have the opportunity to test ride an e-bike or sign up for a monthly membership via the GoSGV program. Registration is not required to participate, and attendees can start and stop at any point along the route.
