In April, leaders from various environmental and climate organizations joined forces to create the Climate and Environmental Leader Accountability (CELA) Coalition, formerly the Foothill Environmental Coalition. Their collective aim was to address crucial issues in the upcoming State Assembly and State Senate races and to hold candidates accountable for their environmental commitments.
To accomplish this, CELA devised a comprehensive evaluation process of 17 questions spanning eight crucial environmental and climate areas to achieve this. Each question was meticulously designed to gauge candidates' positions on critical issues. Responses were scored based on their support or opposition to specific legislation, with 'Support' earning candidates a score of 1, 'Would not Support' resulting in a score of 0, and non-respondents marked as "declined to respond" and also given a score of 0.
The scorecard offers voters impartial assessments of each candidate's stance on climate change mitigation, environmental safeguarding, and public health. By systematically evaluating candidates in Assembly District 41 and Senate District 25, CELA empowers voters to make choices aligned with their values and the pressing need for climate action and environmental preservation.
After months of dedicated work, the CELA Coalition is pleased to announce the release of the CELA Scorecards for candidates in Assembly District 41 (AD41) and Senate District 25 (SD25). These scorecards are accessible below. We urge you to share them with your friends and family, on social media platforms, and during any upcoming endorsement processes!
