A little over a year after launching, the GoSGV regional electric bike share program continues to inspire San Gabriel Valley residents to ride more and drive less.

A review of 227 constituents who have exited the program revealed the following key takeaways:

  • E-commuter bikes were ridden an average of 23 miles per week.
  • E-Family/Cargo Bikes were ridden an average of 40 miles per week.
  • 33% (76 participants) exited the program because they purchased their own e-bike or planned to do so.
  • 96% of participants said the program met their expectations.

GoSGV is among the first programs in the US to employ a monthly subscription model for e-bike sharing. Inspired by similar programs in France (Véligo), Australia (Lug + Carrie), and the Netherlands (Swapfiets, VanMoof), the program allows San Gabriel Valley residents to experience life with an e-bike a month or more for about the same cost of renting an electric bike for a few hours in Santa Monica.

Looking forward, ActiveSGV’s e-mobility team is working to expand the GoSGV program to include a greater variety and number of e-family/cargo bikes and launch a second regional e-bike voucher/rebate program. The latter will be focused on e-cargo/family bikes, which are more costly, less common in the SGV, and potentially more impactful at reducing motor vehicle trips. From 2016 to 2018, ActiveSGV (then BikeSGV) administered an initial e-bike incentive program that offered 100 qualifying residents a $700 rebate on purchasing an e-bike.
