Congresswoman Judy Chu has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since July 2009, representing California’s 28th Congressional District, which includes Pasadena and the west San Gabriel Valley. She currently serves on the influential House Ways and Means Committee, which oversees legislation related to taxes, revenues, Social Security, and Medicare. In this role, she is a member of the Subcommittees on Health, Worker and Family Support, and Oversight, giving her an important voice on healthcare reform, safety net programs, and fiscal accountability. She also serves on the House Budget Committee, where she helps shape the nation’s spending priorities.
Her career in public service began in 1985 when she was elected to the Board of Education for the Garvey School District. She went on to serve on the Monterey Park City Council, where she was elected Mayor three times. She later represented her community in the State Assembly and on the State Board of Equalization, California’s elected tax board. In 2009, she made history as the first Chinese American woman elected to Congress.
Throughout her career, Rep. Chu has championed policies that strengthen working families, expand healthcare access, protect civil rights, and support the diverse communities of the San Gabriel Valley. Her leadership and advocacy have brought resources, investments, and opportunities to the region, helping to advance a healthier, more equitable future.
Be part of the celebration as we honor the honorable Judy Chu and other local leaders at Noche de las Luminarias. This special evening will bring together advocates, organizations, public agencies, and city staff who are working every day to create healthier, safer, and more connected communities across the San Gabriel Valley.
