Map of SGV Greenways
A map of the proposed San Gabriel Valley (SGV) Greenway Network, illustrating the extensive system of waterways—such as the San Gabriel River, Rio Hondo, and their tributaries—targeted for regional connectivity and improvement. The full Strategic Implementation Plan and the Program Environmental Impact Report (PEIR) are available here.

The San Gabriel Valley is crisscrossed with storm channels, washes and creeks that feed into the San Gabriel and Rio Hondo Rivers. Flanked by gravel service roads, most of these tributaries are ideally suited for Class I Multi-Use Bicycle and Pedestrian Paths, providing a golden opportunity to develop a regional network of protected bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure.

A few of these waterways such as the Eaton Wash, San Jose Creek and Big Dalton Creek have already been identified by County and City officials for such infrastructure. But many others exist! Each would connect new neighborhoods, schools and entire communities to a regional network of protected pathways for safe recreation and healthy, active transportation.

Driven by the input of community members and stakeholders like you, ActiveSGV launched the 2030 SGV Greenway Network initiative in 2014, setting a goal of 50 miles of new #SGVgreenways and green streets in a decade.

Please join us in championing a healthier, greener, and more livable San Gabriel Valley by formally endorsing the San Gabriel Valley Regional Greenway Network Initiative!

  • May-June 2016 - City of Glendora applies to CA-Active Transportation Program to fund design and construction of greenways on the Big and Little Dalton Washes

  • June 2018 - City of Glendora hosts grand opening for its first stretch of greenway along the San Dimas Wash
  • July 2018 - City of South Pasadena hosts grand opening for its first greenway along the Arroyo Seco channel
  • Summer 2019 - City of Glendora conducts design input session for Phase 2 of the San Dimas Wash greenway
  • Winter 2019 - Los Angeles County refines design for Puente Creek Greenway

  • December 2025 - Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors adopts the San Gabriel Valley Regional Greenway Network Implementation Plan

Other #SGVGreenway Projects in various planning stages (details pending):

  • San Dimas Wash - City of Glendora
  • San Jose Creek - Cities of Pomona and Industry
  • San Jose Creek - grade separation project at Turnbull Canyon Rd will make accommodations for a greenway underpass at this location in the future
