The CalFresh Healthy Living (CFHL) Program is a federal/State partnership that provides nutrition education for individuals enrolled in or eligible to enroll in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

ActiveSGV is working in partnership with the Los Angeles Department of Public Health to provide nutrition education and produce access to physical activity classes for the San Gabriel Valley and East Los Angeles communities through a variety of programming.

Through partnerships with community clinics and parks throughout LA County, Active SGV’s team provides free, bilingual (English/Spanish and English/Chinese) nutrition education and physical activity to community members. Additionally, our team supports the district’s monthly Produce Distribution services.

Our goal is to serve as a resource for our community to access free fresh produce, education, and physical activity, ultimately leading to greater access to healthy living. For more information and resources on CalFresh, click HERE.

If you have questions about the CalFresh Healthy Living project, please email Diane Velez at diane@activesgv.org or call (626) 415-8406.

  • ActiveSGV is currently leading nutrition education classes for community members during the free produce giveaways every second Wednesday of the month from 10 AM to 11 AM.

Active Transportation in South El Monte

A group of young people stands inside Union Station, looking up at the ornate ceiling and large arched windows, capturing the architectural beauty of the historic station.
Youth participants admire the architecture of Union Station, exploring the history and design of this iconic Los Angeles landmark.
  • Youth Participatory Action & Research, or YPAR, is a way for young people to take an active role in improving their communities. ActiveSGV has embraced this approach to engaging local youth in meaningful projects. Through the YPAR model, youth identify neighborhood challenges and work toward real solutions.
  • With our presence at events throughout South El Monte, we continue to engage with folks to provide information and education on active transportation and how people can support more AT improvements in their city.
