SGV Greenway Network: Creating an Active Transportation Superhighway by 2025

The San Gabriel Valley is crisscrossed with storm channels, washes and creeks that feed into the San Gabriel and Rio Hondo Rivers. Flanked by gravel service roads, most of these tributaries are ideally suited for Class I Multi-Use Bicycle and Pedestrian Paths, providing a golden opportunity to develop a regional network of protected bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure.

A few of these waterways such as the Eaton Wash, San Jose Creek and Big Dalton Creek have already been identified by County and City officials for such infrastructure. But many others exist! Each would connect new neighborhoods, schools and entire communities to a regional network of protected pathways for safe recreation and healthy, active transportation.

Driven by the input of community members and stakeholders like you, ActiveSGV launched the 2025 SGV Greenway Network initiative in 2014, setting a goal of 50 miles of new #SGVgreenways and green streets in a decade.

Please join us in championing a healthier, greener, and more livable San Gabriel Valley by formally endorsing the San Gabriel Valley Regional Greenway Network Initiative!

  • January 2022 - The City of Glendora releases a request for proposal for firms to design and construct a segment of the greenway along the San Dimas Wash.

Other #SGVgreenway Projects in various planning stages (details pending):

  • San Dimas Wash - City of Glendora
  • San Jose Creek - City of Pomona
  • San Jose Creek - grade separation project at Turnbull Canyon Rd will make accommodations for a greenway underpass at this location in the future
