SGV Water Action aims to engage San Gabriel Valley residents in experiencing and protecting their local watersheds through the following programming:
- Public Transit Adventures: Participants visit different parts of LA County watersheds such as Santa Monica and Long Beach, utilizing public transportation for fun days in nature while learning about how water flows through our communities.
- Community Bike Rides: Guided, family-friendly bike tours in the community as water and nature-based learning opportunities such as visiting Santa Fe Dam and Merced Avenue Greenway.
- Tabling at Community Events: Attending community events in the San Gabriel Valley to inform, educate, and encourage people to engage with the Safe Clean Water Program.
- Youth Participatory Action Research: The Water Youth Fellowship at Gabrielino High has equipped ten high school students to learn, engage, and grow as water leaders by identifying opportunities for multi-benefit stormwater capture projects at their school.
- Community Based Action Research: The Baldwin Park Community Leadership Program aims to provide ten community members in Baldwin Park and its surrounding communities (El Monte, South El Monte, West Covina, Irwindale, La Puente, Avocado Heights, Valinda, West Puente Valley) with the opportunity to learn, engage, and grow as active community leaders while co-developing solutions to local environmental issues. Applications are due 2/16.
SGV Water Action is funded by the Water Foundation and the Safe Clean Water Program. The Safe, Clean Water Program (SCWP) is a Los Angeles County initiative that funds projects to capture, clean, and conserve local water. It helps reduce pollution in rivers, lakes, and the ocean while increasing local water supplies. The program supports green infrastructure, habitat restoration, and community education about water conservation and watershed health. By investing in these projects, the SCWP creates safer, cleaner waterways and strengthens communities across Los Angeles County.
