WoW - Women on Wheels

Why WoW?
Women on Wheels (WoW) was created in 2014 by a group of women-identified volunteers who felt a need to create a safe, supportive space for women of color interested in biking. Many women feel that it is not safe enough to ride a bike on the streets for fun or as their main mode of transportation. According to a 2009 Scientific American article, in the U.S., men's cycling trips surpass women's by at least 2:1. Overall, women are still severely underrepresented as riders, leaders and advocates in the bicycle movement.

In early 2019, Women on Wheels expanded its mission to include not just biking but also other recreational activities (ie: yoga, zumba, hiking, running, etc.).

Creating Safe Spaces
Women on Wheels (WoW) empowers women of all ages, backgrounds and abilities in the San Gabriel Valley to bike and engage in wellness activities by:
  • Informing and educating women about bicycling and wellness through advocacy, leadership, ridership
  • Establishing women’s educational courses and outreach programs
  • Representing women in local advocacy efforts
  • Fostering positive relationships within a strong, supportive network of women interested in wellness advocacy
  • Improving overall health of communities by integrating healthy physical activity into active lifestyles
Vision
We believe women's wellness is essential to a healthy, environmentally sustainable San Gabriel Valley rooted in equity.

Mission
Women on Wheels emboldens girls and women of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities to lead healthy lifestyles in a judgment-free setting. We work to create welcoming women-only experiences that are fun, educational, and foster meaningful relationships. We encourage women to engage in recreational activities and explore new places in the San Gabriel Valley. We promote environmentally friendly practices while being community-based and empathetic.
